Difficult UNC Exam!

A UNC Senior reports for her
university final examination
which consists of "yes/no"
type questions. She takes her
seat in the examination hall,
stares at the question paper
for five minutes, and then in
a fit of inspiration takes her
purse out, removes a coin and
starts tossing the coin and
marking the answer sheet -
Yes for heads and No for Tails.
Within half an hour she is all
done whereas the rest of the
class is sweating it out.

During the last few minutes,
she is seen desperately throwing
the coin, muttering and sweating.
The moderator, alarmed, approaches
her and asks what is going on.

"I finished the exam in half an hour.
But I'm rechecking my answers."

(Don't tell anyone but she graduated with honors)

    MAYO

Mayonnaise is said to be the invention of the French chef
of the Duke de Richelieu in 1756. While the Duke was
defeating the British at Port Mahon, his chef was creating
a victory feast that included a sauce made of cream and
eggs. When the chef realized that there was no cream in
the kitchen, he improvised, substituting olive oil for the
cream. A new culinary masterpiece was born, and the chef
named it "Mahonnaise" in honor of the Duke's victory.

celebrations. Crusaders returning from the Middle East
spread the custom of coloring eggs, and Europeans began to
use them to celebrate Easter and other warm weather holidays.

    INTERESTING...

Pine, spruce, or other evergreen wood should never be used
in barbecues. These woods, when burning or smoking, can
add harmful tar and resins to the food. Only hardwoods
should be used for smoking and grilling, such as oak,
pecan, hickory, maple, cherry, alder, apple, or mesquite,
depending on the type of meat being cooked.

American basketball player known for his incredible shooting
abilities, creative passing, and dazzling ballhandling. Also
known as "Pistol Pete", he starred in college and for three
NBA teams. Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA scorer,
averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the
benefit of a three-point line. Maravich was inducted into the
Basketball Hall of Fame in May 1987. He was, and still is, the
youngest player to be inducted. In 1996, he was named one of
the 50 greatest NBA players in history by a panel made up of
NBA historians, former players, and coaches. He was the only
deceased player on the list. Then in 2005, ESPNU named
Maravich the greatest college basketball player of all-time.
Fortunately he committed his life to Jesus Christ as his Savior & Lord and now resides with Him forever.

  4. AMERICA BEGAN AS A CHRISTIAN

    NATION; THROUGH THE YEARS

    SOMETHING WENT WRONG

"This is like deja vu all over aain." That comment is quickly recognized as one of the all time favorites from Yogi Berra, for years the catcher and manager of the New York Yankees baseball team.

Yogi may not have realized it, but he accurately portrayed an evaluation of the situations which American Evangelicals are currently experiencing. "Deja vu" is, of course, a French phrase meaning "already seen." A sharp example to illustrate its application in the current sense is seen in the words of Dr. Laurence White, speaking at the "Reclaiming America for Christ" conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1999: "The Christians of Germany learned only too late that God's people in Christ cannot disengage from the culture in which they live. They retreated into the comfortable security of their sanctuaries, they sat in their padded pews, they kept their religion and their politics strictly separate from one another, and their nation was destroyed. That retreat was encouraged and facilitated by the endlessly repeated lie of the absolute separation of church and state."

Let us repeat Dr. White's final thought: "the endlessly repeated lie of the absolute separation of church and state."

Yogi Berra's "deja vu" is clearly seen in the historical events recalled for us by Dr. White, and in how history relates itself to the situation in which America finds itself today.

The voice of the liberals -- the anti-religion, anti-God, anti-Christian forces so outspoken today -- argues that the founding fathers never intended America to be a Christian nation . . . they point out that there is nothing in the Constitution saying so, and therefore it simply isn't true. So let's quickly put that absurd, unfounded theory to rest.

First, take a moment to recall the Mayflower Compact, drafted and signed on November 11, 1620, while the ship Mayflower was anchored in Provincetown Harbor, and those original "founding fathers" had not yet set foot on this new land. Consider the opening portion of the Compact which testifies to the purpose of the perilous voyage having been undertaken "for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith..." By the terms of that Compact, which was, in a certain sense, the first American Constitution, and which John Quincy Adams in a speech in 1802 declared to be "the foundation of the U.S. Constitution," it is perfectly clear that this founding of a new nation, was for the "Advancement of the Christian Faith."

The pages of the recorded history of the United States are replete with undeniable facts which build on that original intent expressed in the Mayflower Compact. The testimonies of so many of the "founding fathers" are clear and unequivocal. For example, John Adams in 1775, "We Recognize no Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus!" And a year later, “ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.” Or Patrick Henry, the "Orator of the Revolution:" “It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ."

Or by moving ahead just 78 years from 1776 to 1854 when after a year of deliberation concerning the separation of Christian principles from government, the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee wrote in the formal report, "At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and its amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged, not any one sect. In this age there is no substitute for Christianity. That was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to be the religion of their descendants. The great vital, conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and divine truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."

But sfter just the first 171 years of the United States of America, in 1947 the U.S. Supreme Court adopted the myth -- the "lie" -- of the "separation of church and state." The Justices, by a 7-2 vote, based their decision on a sentence in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury (Connecticut) Baptist Association, in which he used the phrase, "a high wall of separation between church and state" -- but they ignored the fact that Jefferson also said in that letter that it is a one-directional wall that keeps the government from running the church, and keeps Christian principles in government. The liberal biased Justices acted on their pre-conceived personal viewpoints, rather than considering the facts.

But the damage was done, and in just another 15 years, in 1962-63, that Court yielded to the arguments of American Atheist Madelyn Murray O'Hair, and threw God out of the classrooms of American schools and opened the doors for endless attacks on the Christian faith by the ACLU, the Liberals, the Atheists and the Homosexuals. The results since God was eliminated from our educational system? The numbers of violent crimes, drug use, teen pregnancies, divorces, abortions and sexually transmitted diseases have all increased. Meantime, the S.A.T. (Scholatic Aptitude Test) scores in our schools have gone down.

Then a few years later, in 1973, as a result of the infamous Roe v. Wade case, the Supreme Court made aborions legal and readily available . . . with the result that since that decision, more than 40 million babies have already been klled.

And the Liberals have utilized all of these decisions to the point where religion, prayer, hymns or any mention of God have all been stripped from our educational system . . . any evidence of God or religion is forbidden from the public square . . . sodomy has been declared legal . . . same sex marriages have been legalized by a handfull of appointed judges . . . even songs like "God Bless America" are forbidden and the traditional "Merry Christmas" has become "Holiday Greetings." And our national motto, "In God we trust" is under attack, and they are not through with their attempt to remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Face this fact: these things have happened, and continue to happen, in direct contrast to our founding fathers' intent in establishing this nation upon historic Judeo-Christian principles.

What can we, as Evangelical Christians, do? There is still the unequaled power of the ballot box, but it is a toothless tiger if those of us who are Chriustian believers do not vote , and by our absence allow the Liberals to take over our government and lead it further down the anti-religion, anti-God, anti-Christian path. It is not too much to expect Christians to vote every two years. In between those election cycles, there is the opportunity to phone our Senators and Representatives and encourage them to vote to maintain the principles upon which this nation was founded.

However, the present Democrat controlled Senate has in play the first bill of its new session: S. 1, wherein Section 220 -- depending on the interpretation rendered by our liberal judges -- can affect publications like EPOCH Commentary's right of free speech in our urging our readers to contact their Representatives or Senators concerning any action before the Congress. While there is still time to lawfully do so, please phone the U.S. Capitol at (202) 224-3121 and urge your Senators to support the amendment to S.1 offered by Senator Robert Bennett, (R) Utah.

The Liberals have led us down a slippery slope, always further from the foundational intent upon which this nation was established. They will never do what is right and lead us back to the nation we used to be . . . it is the responsibility of American Christians to take the lead in reclaiming our nation for Christ and re-establish those principles which created this successful, God-fearing nation, the envy of the whole civilized world. Or, of course, we can just give up, and let the Liberals have their way. We have often cited the statement attributed to British statesman Edmund Burke that "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." That statement remains as true today as in Burke's 18th century.

    Afterthoughts . . .

It's a bit early to even have thoughts about the current national scene, let alone having any "Afterthoughts." The present session of Congress, the 110th, has not been underway long enough to form any rational opinion about it. The current leaders, Pelosi and Reid, have made many lofty predictions, but have not promised to do any thing meaningful about the major issues which they are facing. It is obvious that any hope of bi-partisanship has already been abandoned. We will keep alert to see what, if anything, meaingful will be accomplished, and will share our viewpoint with our readers.

Meantime, there was one unfortunate event which should not be overlooked and dismissed as being meaningless. Newly elected Congressman, Keith Ellison, a Democrat Farm Labor member from Minnesota, although raised as a Roman Catholic, converted to Islam in the early 1980s while a student in college. When he took his oath of office as a U.S. Representative he put his hand on the Koran, Islam's "holy book," rather than on the Bible, which has always been the custom here in the United States. This first inclusion of an active Muslim in the U.S. Congress is a matter of concern -- Muslims have a frightening record of growth everywhere in the world. It cannot be said that every Muslim is a terrorist, opposed to the United States. However, in today's world every terrorist active in opposition to the United States has been a Muslim. As we said, this "camel's nose under the tent" is a matter of concern for American Christians. (In case you have forgotten, the meaning of that phrase is based on the idea that a camel will stick his nose into your tent, and if you do nothing about it, he'll get his whole head in, then his neck, and his body, and eventually destructively blunder around in a space where he doesn't belong. The moral of the story is the need to prevent damage by taking action early.)
